"Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest." -Jesus

When I close my eyes I can picture Jesus saying these words, gesturing me away to a place of calm and serenity. He beckons me to sit at His feet in quiet and solitude and learn from Him. I envision the backdrop of a waterfall as the birds chirp and the sweet smell of pine fills my senses. In the peaceful sanctuary of His presence, I find wisdom.

Then…

“Mom, when is dinner?”
“What? I thought I just paid this bill!”
“Be thankful! He only needed five stitches this time.”
“Ohhhhh…I’m late for work again!”
“If that phone rings one more time…!”
“Out of diapers again?”
“I invited my boss for dinner. Is that ok?”
“We request the honor of your presence at….”
…the reality of life hits. The vision vaporizes. The sanctuary of His presence is just a dream. There is no time to seek wisdom.

…the reality of life hits. The vision vaporizes. The sanctuary of His presence is just a dream. There is no time to seek wisdom.

But the truth is that Jesus still beckons. We are called to sit with Him every day but all too often we let the din of this world drown out His voice. Initimate moments with God where we find balance and knowledge to live an abundant life are stolen.

Do we really need a waterfall with birds chirping to experience a quiet place with God? Is it selfish of us to take precious time to meet with our Friend Jesus? Or maybe our reason for not going to quiet places with God is much deeper. If I am alone with God, what will I say? Will He care enough to speak to me in the silence? If He does speak, how can I hear Him?

Shannon Wexelberg will lead us in worship. Her gorgeous voice and ease with the keyboard will provide the backdrop for seeking the face of Christ. Shannon has led worship for dozens of women’s events around the U.S. and the world and she helps lead worship for several large churches in the Denver/Colorado Springs area. She has written four CDs and has added her vocal flavor to the work of many other Christian artists. Shannon is currently writing and producing her 5th album which will be a Christmas CD.

Speakers for the retreat are Lorraine Pintus and Kathy Cordell. Lorraine and Kathy will be sharing speaking sessions throughout the weekend. Lorraine is from Colorado Springs and she is a well known conference speaker and the author of 5 books. Her interactive sessions on ‘Hearing the voice of God’ will help bring women deeper in their quiet times with the Lord. Kathy is a writer, speaker and the president and founder of Women of Worship. She will be speaking on ‘The Place of Further Still’, going to places of quiet where only God can go with us. Both women provide an atmosphere of humor while speaking to the hard-hitting, emotion-filled issues that most women deal with.

The Quiet Places Retreat will be held at one of the most gorgeous venues on earth: The YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park Colorado. Women will stay in the brand new Emerald Mountain Lodge, complete with moss-rock fireplaces, spacious bedrooms, meeting areas, conference area and the most incredible views God ever created.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” ~Jesus

He beckons,
Kathy
